Awarding

June 2, 2011

A few days ago, I had a curious comment. It was from another blogger, and she was handing me an award. Can you imagine my surprise and glee?

I’ve seen them floating around out there in the blogosphere. Awards. Mysterious objects of appreciation. And now I have one. Thank you very much to S. J. Wist who passed on The Irresistibly Sweet Blog Award to me! Her blog has a guide on how to be a pro geek, book reviews, a comparison between writer’s block and World of Warcraft just to mention a few things.

The instructions, as they were passed on to me, are these:

1. Thank and link to the person who nominated you.
2. Share seven random facts about yourself.
3. Pass the award along to 15 deserving blog buddies.
4. Contact those buddies to congratulate them.

And so I shall. I would like to pass on the award to 15 people whose blogs all focus on reading and writing: CMStewartCamMaggieAlannah MurphyChristi CorbettJami GoldCatanaN. M. MartinezLimrSonia G MedeirosAva JaeAlice M.Monica-MarieLiz Hellebuyck, and Erin Brambilla.
They are all unique and interesting and will treat you to either flash fiction, writer quotes, linguistic articles, writing tips, book reviews, or inspiration (or a bit of several things).

Now, seven random facts about me …

1: My cat (Reid) is named after a Scottish protagonist of mine who used it as an alias for a period of time. Like my cat, he is a redhead.
2: The first story I ever wrote for a class in elementary school had a pet spider as its narrator.
3: I once made an amateur film with a friend that we wrote ourselves, played all the parts in, and filmed.
4: I know most of my protagonists’ shoe sizes.
5: I practically never watch the telly, but I do keep up with two tv series: Doctor Who and Supernatural.
6: I honestly think that strawberries with milk, sugar and a wee bit of Jack Daniel’s are delicious.
7: I have co-written and illustrated a non-fiction book that was published in my country under a different name.

Also, thank you for reading my blog. Or stumbling upon it by accident and running away again, but I like to think that some of you read it on purpose.

How honored (or honoured as they say in your land) do “I” feel! Thank you MUCHLY considering you’ve done so much work to help @notveryalice & I in our humble little endeavor! Much loves to you & I LOVE that you know all of your protagonists’s shoe sizes! Maybe if any of them are a size 6 I can borrow them! 😉 hee hee! Again, thank you!

You’re welcome! Actually, here they would say “beæret” which translates to hono(u)red. 😉
I maybe have a single size 6 or two around here, but the guys are between 7 1/2 and 12, and there’s a lot of those around.

I wish I could say I appreciate it, but a reward is one thing, these chain promotions are another. I know they’re meant well, but I don’t read them or participate in them. Yeah, I’m always the odd woman out.

I’m sorry I didn’t ask you beforehand. However, it is heart felt for my part as I do follow and appreciate your blog (and the others) and enjoy your comments on mine a lot. I completely understand that you don’t want to pass it on or display it, but I hope you know that I personally mean it as an honest token of appreciation.
If you would like me to remove the link to you so that you are not in any way associated with it, please let me know.

As I said, I know it’s well meant, and since most people are glad to participate, there was no need for you to ask ahead of time. You can leave the link, or not, as you choose.

And I do appreciate that you thought of including me.

          Thank you for your understanding.
And since it was never about who passes it on or not for me, I will gladly leave the link in the hope that you will get a few more visitors.

Wow! Thanks so much for considering me. I’m not entirely sure that I’m going to pass this one along if only because my blog post tomorrow is passing along a different award and…I’d rather not fill my blog posts with a bunch of different random awards.

However! I really do appreciate the thought. This is truly awesome. ^_^

Quite understandable. I did see that you got another one too, but that seemed a bad reason to take you out of my personal equation.
      And you’re welcome. 🙂

Thank you for the award, Howalt! 😀 That’s Irresistibly Sweet of you!

You wrote and acted in a film? Now I’m really curious! Maybe you’ll share the title so I can look it up. 🙂 Unless it was an, um . . special entertainment film, then I totally understand how you’d want to keep the title secret. lol 😉

I’m also really curious about the book! Non-fiction with illustrations under a pseudonym, eh? Hmm . .

You’re very welcome! You know I follow (and have for a while) your blog. 🙂
Oh, it was just an amateur film. And not “special entertainment”. XD Haha! – We were teenagers and wrote a fantasy script about two (conveniently) kids who were transported to a strange world with an evil witch, her apprentice and a benevolent wizard.
The non-fiction book was for kids. But it was about creativity. 🙂

That film sounds ambitious. I’m reminded how in middle school I used to act out 1-minute skits with a friend for one of our teachers. But these were mostly impromptu, there was no filming, and we did it for extra credit (2 points per skit). Our poor teacher sat through so many of these . .

That made me laugh! There’s a lesson to be learnt somewhere here … I think it’s, “And then we grew up and became writers.” 😉

Thanks so much for the award! I plan on posting it, and my seven random facts, in a few weeks.

(I’d do it earlier, but I’ve got a super awesome wow how cool contest coming up…as in a “Worst First Line” contest. First prize gets a critique from Jillian Kent, a published author repped by Rachelle Gardner)

OK, enough self-promotion about my blog.

Thanks again for the award! These are so fun, and a great way of getting to know other writers and bloggers.

I saw the abstention above and, while I can understand her point, I never really thought of these awards that way. I see them as a creative way at building community and showing appreciation. So in that spirit, for including me in your awardings, I thank you humbly and accept gladly!

And I luuuuhrve me some Supernatural! I got sucked in during reruns and have been avoiding the current Season Six until I can start them from the beginning (luckily, they just aired the season finale, so now they’ll start re-running and I can catch up.)

Just for the record, Limr, so there’s no misunderstanding. I support other bloggers, and I appreciate their support. I just prefer to go about it in a different way.

I’m sorry, I hope I didn’t sound dismissive of your abstention. I simply meant to say that you presented a view of these awards that I had never thought of (I haven’t even been aware of these awards for more than a few months), and I could understand why you would choose alternate ways for supporting other bloggers. However, after thinking about it, I decided that I understand your position but don’t have the same feelings about this particular activity, so I choose to participate.

Sometimes in my desire to be concise, I end up conveying a snippiness that I did not intend! 🙂

Aw! Thank you (how sweet, hehe). What a wonderful list of writers to be included with. I appreciate it very much!

I once made an amateur film (no…not THAT kind). Well, maybe “home video” might be more accurate. My friends and I made a movie about some aliens who invaded earth. The characters were finger puppets. Pretty sure I played the theme from Jaws on my clarinet as part of the soundtrack. Oh yes. I was a dork. I have no idea where that movie is today. It will probably come back to haunt me one day :).

That sounds like a wonderful film! I can just imagine the Jaws theme on the clarinet. It if makes you feel any better, I once played an alien in a school project which included a costume made of a huge, black plastic bag …
      – And you’re very welcome. 🙂

Dang, you tagged me before I could tag you, lol!

Mmm, I love strawberries and milk with sugar. My mom always used the evaporated milk from a can. I’d never sully it with liqueur though. 😉

All very interesting facts. Thank you very much for the nod too. 🙂

I didn’t do the liqueur thing until very recently. It does turn out, though, that the alcohol complements the sweetness very well. But obviously, it’s not something to be done with a whole bowl. XD
And you’re quite welcome. I do enjoy your blog! 🙂

hehe I love following this trail of cake crumbs. I’m gonna get phat from reading so many blogs. I can back you on the TV part–don’t watch/have cable myself. It’s amazing how much time that gives to do other things, like follow great and very real people instead.
